Eberhart Sign & Lighting Company was established in 1936 by Paul Eberhart and was purchased by Sue Schmidt in June of 2012, who became involved in the industry through the graciousness of Ron Eberhart.

The business has evolved dramatically and drastically since its inception. When Paul Eberhart established the business in 1936, everything was painted by hand – painted on the side of a brick building, painted on vehicles, and even painted on large billboards - all painted by hand. With the electronic and digital market, computers, sign design programs, and full-color digital printers these have made the industry much more efficient.

Eberhart Sign’s core product is custom sign design and fabrication, installation, maintenance, lighting services, electronic message centers, LED, and neon signs. Their full-color digital printer enables the company to design, fabricate, and supply quality products at a competitive price point.

When asked what made this line of work her passion, Sue said, “The ability to work directly with customers while providing excellent customer service and then hopefully, establishing long-term relationships.”

Eberhart Sign & Lighting Company would like the opportunity to work with new businesses wanting to add signage as well as established business in need of enhanced or upgraded signage. An Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Chamber of Commerce member since 1982, Schmidt says their chamber membership has had a significant impact on their success. “Because of the vast audience the Ed/Glen Chamber reaches, I know they refer my business to those companies who can benefit from my products and services.”

“Eberhart Sign & Lighting Company has been very supportive to the Ed/Glen Chamber throughout their membership. Whether it’s large-scale event banners that take a great deal of coordination or helping us out of a jam with last minute signage needs, Sue and her staff, and Ron in years prior, are always willing to help. Most recently Eberhart Sign & Lighting Company provided beautiful new banners for the annual Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Chamber of Commerce Halloween Parade. We appreciate all they do for us, and they are a prime example of a company truly invested in the community,” said Ed/Glen Chamber Executive Director Desiree Bennyhoff.

The crew at Eberhart Sign & Lighting Company have exciting news to share with the business community. “We’re expanding! We’ll be moving just next door and will occupy two buildings – doubling our square footage,” said Schmidt.

Sue remains an active member at St. John’s United Methodist Church, and BNI–Extreme Business Builders. She also passionately supports the Glen/Ed Pantry, which is near and dear to her heart because her parents, Bud & Gin Shepard, were devoted supporters.

Sue’s favorite mantra is: “Value, Quality, and Dependability – The Foundation of Our Business Since 1936.” To learn more about Eberhart Sign & Lighting Company, visit them in person at 108 First Avenue in Edwardsville, go to www.eberhartsigns.net, or call 618.656.7256.
