Meridian Village Senior Living Community, an Ed/Glen Chamber member since January 1999, is owned by Lutheran Senior Services (LSS). LSS shares its roots with the Lutheran Hospital system, which was founded in St. Louis in 1851. In the 1960s, the Lutheran Hospital made the decision to offer expanded services to cater to St. Louis’ senior population. Its purchase of the Lutheran Convalescent Home in Webster Groves was the first step toward the eventual creation of Lutheran Senior Services as a standalone organization, which today owns and operates 10 continuing care retirement communities, 10 affordable housing communities, and eight in-home services.

Since joining LSS in 1999, Meridian Village has expanded into a full Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), offering five levels of service – independent living apartments and patio homes, assisted living, memory care assisted living, and our REACH Short Stay rehabilitation program. Meridian Village serves seniors living in the Metro East.

Meridian Village started as an independent senior living community. In 2004, they began their expansion into a full-service CCRC with the addition of new independent living apartments and patio homes, as well as a new assisted living neighborhood. In 2010, Meridian Village brought the state-of-the-art “household” model of care to the Metro East, as they opened their Memory Care Assisted Living area, Hummingbird Lane. Patterned after a family home, households are self-contained living spaces where small teams of flexible team members provide personalized care for a smaller number of residents. This model also shaped our newly opened care center, which offers skilled nursing and REACH Short Stay rehabilitation.

What sets us apart from our competitors is the depth and breadth of services offered here on campus, our dedication to creating personalized, person-centered service experiences for each of our residents, and our commitment to our Christian mission of ‘Older Adults Living Life to the Fullest.’ That mantra is based on John 10:10 – “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” This perfectly encapsulates Lutheran Senior Services’ approach to serving seniors.

“Over the years, both LSS and Meridian Village have been blessed by the efforts of many passionate and mission-minded individuals. As an organization, we seek out team members with servant hearts, who have a desire to serve others as Christ would serve them,” said Communications & Media Director Luke Smith.

Meridian Village’s property contains 11 undeveloped acres for additional expansion, although no plans have yet been announced for their use.

Meridian Village is actively involved in numerous volunteer activities. In addition to helping area foodbanks and church ministries, their residents and staff raise money for the United Way and the Alzheimer’s Association. They also work to raise funds for Lutheran Senior Services’ Benevolent Care Fund, which helps support seniors who have outlived their ability to pay for the care they need.

Lutheran Senior Services has been named one of the Best Places to Work in St. Louis twice in the last three years.
