Title: Membership Director

Reports To: President & CEO
 
Objectives
Responsible for developing and maintaining ongoing client relationships to achieve strategic organizational and budgetary goals. This is accomplished by delivering excellent customer service through event planning, member education, resource and benefit training and facilitating networking connections; recruitment of new and retention of existing members through personal contact; and the evaluation and development of member benefits. This position is required to support strategic marketing and development efforts within the organization.
 
Scope
Provide organizational oversight for all aspects of membership development, including new member recruitment, member retention, and member engagement.

Duties
  • Build & maintain strong, active and long-lasting customer relationships through meetings and calls
  • Identify opportunities to upgrade accounts and anticipate when additional attention is necessary to retain a membership
  • Schedule appointments with prospective businesses and organizations
  • Represent Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Chamber of Commerce at appropriate community events, meetings and programsMaintain a targeted retention rate of existing members
  • Establish positive working relationships with member organizations to support retention; work with CEO and team to establish and carry out a plan of personal contact with members
  • Conduct member surveys to increase member awareness, determine constituent needs, and make membership benefit recommendations to CEO
  • Ensure customer retention and satisfaction through assisted education of membership benefits
  • Respond in a timely manner to customer requests and concerns
  • Assist members in personalizing and optimizing membership benefits
  • Ensure that all customer relations are noted properly in customer relationship management softwareUse metrics to determine benefit and efficacy of programs
  • Plan and present monthly membership training/orientation sessions to inform members of ways in which they may receive the most value from their chamber membership
  • Responsible for working within approved budgetKnowledgeable of all Ed/Glen Chamber benefits; field membership benefit questions
  • Coordinate with team concerning marketing, news releases, and chamber publications; submit membership-related articles and photos for publications
  • Develop, schedule and execute networking calendar and programming including monthly business after hours events, networking@noon and b2b breakfasts
  • Oversee and develop chamber ambassador committee
  • Schedule ribbon cuttings and communicate with office and ambassadors
  • Facilitate and communicate membership events and updates with office staff
  • Plan and execute annual fundraisers soliciting membership for donations and sponsorship, in particular for annual gala and annual golf events
  • Implement strategic plan in all member functions and education
  • Attend educational and sector related seminars and workshops
  • Responsible for oversight of greeter service program
  • Submit monthly membership report
  • Clearly communicate account updates and information to chamber staff
  • Volunteer management and coordination for all events
  • Other duties as assigned by CEO 

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • At least two years of sales experience preferred
  • Excellent listening and account management skills
  • Strong verbal skills are an absolute necessity
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities
  • Strong time management, prioritization and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated customer appreciation and commitment to customer service
  • Leadership qualities including self-motivation, resilience, positive attitude, and a team player
  • Ability to adapt and work in a fast paced environment that changes frequently
  • Excellent customer service skills and practical process knowledge
  • Ability to work independently, exercise discretion and use independent judgment
  • Ability to identify problem areas, trends, and opportunities and recommend action to management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software suite
